Art & Culture
Culture plays an important role in the development of any nation. It represents a set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices. Culture and creativity manifest themselves in almost all economic, social, and other activities. A country as diverse as India is symbolized by the plurality of its cultures.
India has one of the world’s largest collections of songs, music, dance, theater, folk traditions, performing arts, rites and rituals, paintings, and writings. Indian culture is the heritage of social norms and technologies that originated in or are associated with the ethno-linguistically diverse India, pertaining to the Indian subcontinent. The term also applies beyond India to countries and cultures whose histories are strongly connected to India by immigration, colonization, or influence, particularly in South Asia and Southeast Asia. India’s languages, art, dance, food, architecture, religion, and customs differ from place to place within the country.
Indian Cuisine
Indian cuisine reflects an 8,000-year history of various groups and cultures interacting with the Indian subcontinent, leading to the diversity of flavors and regional cuisines found in modern-day India. The foods of India are better known for their spicyness. Throughout India, be it North India or South India, spices are used generously in food. But one must not forget that every single spice used in Indian dishes carries some or other nutritional as well as medicinal properties. Food in north India is famous for its unique taste and variety of foods. Rajasthan represents the dessert flavor of Indian food. Here, an immense variety of dals and achars (pickles or preserves) is used, which simply substitutes for the relative lack of fresh vegetables in these areas.
In states like Maharashtra, the food is usually a mix of both north and south cooking styles. Here, people use both the rice and the wheat with the same interest. Along the coastline of Mumbai, a wide variety of fish are available. Some of the delicious preparations include dishes like the Bombay Prawn and Pompfret.
In Goa, which is further down towards the south, one can notice Portuguese influence in the cooking style as well as in the dishes. Some of the major dishes of this region are the sweet and sour vindaloo, duck baffad, sorpotel, egg molie, etc.
In southern India, Kerala, some of the delicious dishes are lamb stew and appams, Malabar fried prawns, idlis, dosas, fish molie, and rice puttu. Another famous item from this region is sweetened coconut milk. Yet another dish is puttu, which is glutinous rice powder steamed like a pudding in a bamboo shoot.

More about this tour
The Indian word for culture is ‘Sanskriti’. From time immemorial, Indians have described their culture as ‘Human Culture’ (Manav Dharma/Sanskriti). It has a universal appeal. The principle of ‘Unity in Diversity’ is the implicit law of nature, the universe, and life. People belonging to diverse communities, speaking different languages, having different foods, and performing different customs harmoniously coexist in India. Thus, the soul of the cultural heritage of India lies in the fact that it’s an all-encompassing confluence of religions, traditions, customs, and beliefs.
Over the years, numerous styles of art, architecture, painting, music, dance, festivals, and customs have developed in India, and this wide variety has made the Indian culture unparalled, which the entire world still looks up to. The cultural heritage of India still flourishes, maintaining its original features along with changes, a key indicator of its strength.
